This Weekend

It was fun times at last nights gig at Smith’s Restaurant, Rittenhouse Square. This time I caved and payed for parking across the street. haha. I’m looking forward to my other gigs this weekend. Tonight I’m at Brickside Grill in Exton 10:30-12:00, Saturday I’m at Toscani 7:30-10:00 and Sunday I’m at The Pike 6-9. Stop by and say hi! Jeff :)

These Days

I’m very glad that I’ve studied and practiced guitar for so many years, but these days it is much more a tool than a passion. The kind of excitement I’ve had about guitar over the years is the kind of excitement that I now have for songwriting and recording. I get much more of a rush creating the entire song  rather than just the guitar part. It’s a lot more rewarding for me to come up with the guitar part, bass line, lyrics, vocal melody/phrasing, drum patterns, synth/key parts, and that’s only the writing end of it. I also love recording and figuring out how to make it sound as professional and as high quality as I can. Choosing the right delays, reverbs, compressors, drum sounds and guitar tones is as enjoyable to me as playing lead guitar ever was. I realize now that I approach all of my interests the same way and that I become completely obsessed and nothing is ever good enough and I’m never satisfied. But, I’ve learned to like that aspect of myself because it makes me want to learn more and improve.

I’m always on high alert wating for a lyrical or musical idea to hit me and my favorite part is trying to record the song that’s in my head. :)

Odds & Ends

I’m happy to see Kings of Leon finally getting the recognition they deserve. I started listening to them when they released “Aha Shake Heartbreak” and they have been one of my favorite bands since. I’m also anxious to hear the new Beastie Boys album coming out in September I really hope it’s better than “5 Boroughs”.  I’m finally getting over my cold and I’m looking forward to playing Toscani this Saturday from 7:30-10 and the Pike Cafe on Sunday from 6-9. :)
